Preparing for Departure
"No cars?!"
We flew into Tampa Thursday night. There was a little hiccup with the rental car company that suddenly "ran out of cars" (zero stars for Executive Car Rentals at Tampa airport!). Thanks to Alamo we made it to Indian Rocks Beach and Pure Lunasea.
IRB
We don't want to ruin a good thing (one of the Eagles songs says: "you call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye), but we have spent some time at Indian Rocks Beach during this adventure and it is really something special. It is so laid back and authentic. It's not for everyone, but if you want a charming walk-able town with good restaurants and void of high rise hotels, check out IRB.
Provisioning
Provisioning is a challenge. There are few places along our route to get groceries so you got to make sure you have all you need plus some extra in case the trip takes longer than expected. Hopefully we did alright.
Itinerary and Weather
Departure is tomorrow morning. The forecast is for light winds and sunny skies Sunday through Tuesday afternoon. Late Tuesday a cold front is expected that will bring strong northerly winds (15knts +). Our original plan was to cross Lake Okeechobee on Wednesday after staying at Roland Martin Marina, but now we need to try and get across the lake before the front. That will be more than 200 miles in three days. I'm not sure if we can do it. It will depend on how much of the Caloosahatchee River/Canal east of Fort Meyers we can do on plane. It's going to be some long days I think.
Next post: Sunday night as long as we have internet service where we are. See ya!
